I know what you’re thinking, “What the hell is a drop?” Right? (If you already know skip this section.) A drop is a line, quote or name that an artist mentions in a song or in an ad for a person or company. Like when you’re listening to Hot 97 and Jay-z says, “Your listening to the number one station for Hip-Hop and R&B, Hot 97.” < --- That's a drop.

How to Master Your Music Using Protools 8 and Ozone 4

Written by: reyshizz

Let me start by saying I’ve learned how to use Protools and the Ozone plug-in on a need-to-know basis. Both the software and plug-in are very powerful tools, which has a vast variety of functions, used to create high quality music. I don’t have time to learn all those functions. I take what I need as I go, and learn tricks on the fly. With that said, this is how I use Protools and Ozone to master my music. In this tutorial I’m using Window XP, Protools 8 and Ozone 4.

Step 1 – Record Your Music
I assume you know how to do this and it is already done. If you haven’t recorded anything, stop reading this now and go record something. I’ll wait for you before I continue :)

Step 2 – Add a Master Track
Now that you have recorded all of your tracks, add a master track to your mix. To do this go to Track > New . The New Track dialogue box will appear. Create 1 Stereo Master Fade track, as seen below.

Step 3 – Mix down
The master fader is a summation of all your other tracks. It is what you hear when all your unmuted tracks are played at once. In the example below the master fader track is labeled “Master 1″ on far right side of my mix. For your mix, you want to make sure that the monitor doesn’t peak (red). It goes from green, yellow (as seen below), orange and red (peak). If your mix is peaking on your master fader, adjust the volume or effects on your other tracks to make sure it doesn’t peak throughout the entire song.

Step 4 – Add Ozone
On your master fader, click right below the label “Inserts A-E” at the top. The inserts menu will appear. Now mouse over multichannel plug-in > EQ > iZotope Ozone 4. Click on “iZotope Ozone 4″ and the Ozone plug-in window will appear. In the Presets list box scroll down and find the preset that would be best for your mix. You can experiment with a variety of presets. I use the “Hip Hop Master – Brighter and Bassier” preset. Once you’ve made your selection, click “OK” on the lower right side of the window and you’re done. Listen to your mix and see how much better it sounds :)

Step 5 – Customize Presets (Optional)
You can customize the preset so that it’s a better fit for your mix. I find the presets fine the way they are so I don’t mess with this much.

Are You Fit to Listen?

Written by: reyshizz

Thoughts of being a “Purple Cow” cow led to a lot of brain storming between me and the homie Neno Brown. The goal is not only to provide people with good music, but also enhance the music listening experience all together. What we came up with is nothing less than genius (IMO). The name of this experience is to be determined but I’ll give you the gist.

In efforts to build a music community with only hip-hop lovers/fans, we will begin a process of elimination to separate the men from the boys. The details of how this will get done is being decided as I type. I can’t say too much right now but be aware that the music of reyshizz will ONLY be provided to hardcore hip-hop lovers… All you posers out there need not apply!

Getting My EP Replicated and Packaged

Written by: reyshizz

I recently completed my EP Making Of a Man and it is currently in the process on getting distributed across many digital music distribution vendors such as iTunes and amazon mp3. It’s available on ringtones right now. The visibility of my works on those sites is great but I feel that I also need physical copies of the EP to sell in person during networking outings or shows.

I am currently in the process of finding a company to replicate and package my cd. A friend of mine is doing most of the leg work and reporting back to me with his findings. Once we find a company that can suit our needs I’ll start making moves to get the cd printed and packaged.

More information to come

Making of a Man Update: I Have Ringtones!

Written by: reyshizz

As you all know I completed my EP and it will (very soon) be released on iTunes and other digital music distribution outlets. It takes them some time to process each file and add it to their databases, but when it is ready you all will be the first to know :-)

Ringtones! Ringtones! Ringtones!

Each of my tracks were made into a ringtone and are now available for download onto your cell phone. To purchase you can use the above widget or go directly to my sales page or text the phrase “Get Reyshizz” to 48000.

There are two option for the purchase of my ringtones. The first is to buy each one individually for 2.99. I have 5 ringtones in total, so that would add up to about $15.00 to get the entire collection. The other way to buy is to sign up for the plan which is $9.99/month. With this plan you can get all my ringtones plus an unlimited amount of other ringtones from the site. I suggest get option two, keep it for a month, and then cancel. That way you can get all my ringtones and others for just 9.99. This would be the best value.

If you’re not into ringtones but still want to support the reyshizz movement please forward this URL (http://offers.thumbplay.com/offers/open_13249/atb4?thpartist=Reyshizz&ptrx=atb4&onexpOffer=true) to friends, family, and colleagues so that they may have the opportunity to enjoy the goodness of reyshizz. Even if you think they won’t be interested in ringtones, send it to them anyway as part of building awareness.

Making of a Man Update: EP Done!

Written by: reyshizz

I’m finished, YES I’m DONE with the EP. It’s mixed down, mastered and delivered to the Industry Alternatives. The next step is to put it up on iTunes and other digital music distribution companies to make it available for download. While that is going on, I’m going to get a promotional CD out there to hand out where ever I can so that people can get a sample of the product, just enough to get them wanting more.

I am also going to be on a local mixtape hosted by @LaProfecy. I heard about the mixtape via Twitter, then I connected with dude to see what it was about. Apparently this mixtape features a bunch of indie artists, w/ the exception of J. Cole, and it’s going to be pushed heavy in the Metro New York Area. Which means if someone who could make things happen hears my shit… my phone should be buzzing crazy. So shot out to the boy @LaProfecy and check out his blog at PiffAvenue.com.
