Studio Session for Hell On Earth [Pictures]

Written by: reyshizz

So I was at Athius Studios a couple of days ago recording Hell On Earth. I brought my nephew Drew along to record the session on my camera. The entire session only lasted an hour cause I knew how I wanted everything to sound. Drew got some great footage. I would post it but the memory card accidentally got crushed by a van in the Wendy’s parking lot (shit happens). We saved the second memory card but it only has the end of the session while we’re listening to the music, so I won’t post that. All I’m posting are the pictures (as you can see above). That’s me, Drew, and the engineer Shadow.

As for the track, I have a rough copy but it needs to edited. As soon as that is done, I’ll post it up for all to hear.

I Don’t Write My Rhymes…

Written by: reyshizz

I know what you’re thinking… “Here we go yet another rapper claiming that he doesn’t write rhymes…blah blah blah.” Well actually the subject of this post isn’t complete. The full statement is: I don’t write my rhymes, we do. Yup us… me, you and every other person I’ve ever met in my life. I know this may sound cheesy but without you there is no me (seriously).

This is how I see it, for every song I have there are lyrics and beats. I didn’t create the words or concepts from scratch, I used the words and concepts that I’ve learned through teachers and peers. The beats that I take from commercial music are obviously not mine. And the beats that I do make are composed of sounds that I did not create, I just put them together in a melody that I could vibe to. All I do is reuse pieces of information and put it together. The end result is a culmination of past and present works and experiences from my point of view. That’s what I have to offer, a point of view.

We could go deeper into this but I’ll leave it at that. So thank you for being in my life to help me re-purpose information. If you hear something on this site that you like thank yourself and the rest of the world for contributing.

-peace and love

Jay-Z’s Six Point Best Life Diagnostic

Written by: reyshizz

I just read this Jay-Z article on Best Life. It was like most Jay-Z pieces…“blah blah bah… he’s great… blah blah blah came from nothing… blah blah blah… made millions.” I like the fluff so I read the article for some inspiration. As an added bonus at the end of the article Jay-Z gave his Six Point Best Life Diagnostic, which I got to say was pretty impressive. Check it out…

My Story (Revisited)

Written by: reyshizz

I am that I am.

After writing My Story, I realized I did what I’ve tried not to do for so long, label myself. Once you have a label, you have to uphold that label, and people expect you to live up to it. Right now I’m saying F-it, I do what I want to do.

I am that I am.

My Story

Written by: reyshizz

I kinda have a problem letting people into my world. So I tend not to. My music is a window, but it’s so cryptic (in my opinion) that it doesn’t really say much to who I am…

Who am I?
A Geek
Honestly I’m still trying to figure out who I am. But if I were to sum it up in one phrase, I would say I’m a geek that could flow. I got a geek job, i went to a geek school for undergrad and an even geekier university for grad school. Yes, I have an MS degree in some obscure geeky major, HCI.

Spiritual
On top of being a geek, I’m mad spiritual (or at least try to be). I don’t believe in any one religion, but I appreciate the core teachings in all of them. With that in mind, I’m not angry like most rappers. I don’t hate anyone or myself. I really love my life, as is.

Rapper
I am a rapper, I am a rapper, I am a rapper. People that know me to be the geek that I am, find it hard to believe that I rap. But yea, I rap. The people that know me as a rapper kinda rob me of my “realness” when they find out I’m a geek with a 9 to 5. At the end of the day, I”m like “So what”. I am a geek, I rap and I’m nice at both. Try me!

Music I’m Listening To

Written by: reyshizz

I have no new music yet but I’m working on a couple of joints that are straight fire. I think I’ve reached higher level of skill and talent with the word play. Not to toot my on horn but, beep beep! In the mean time, while I work on getting some tracks out, I thought you folks would like to know what music I listen to when I’m not doing music. This past week (02/15-02/22) I’ve been rocking Maroon 5 the Call and Response album, introduced to me by my gf. My favorite track on there (right now) is the Makes Me Wonder, Produced by Just Blaze.. Yah should definitely check it out.

Indie Music and Social Networking Sites

Written by: reyshizz

In preparation of the release of Reyshizz Reloaded, I had to work hard to make sure that it did not go un-noticed. Several months before I even released a song, I told as much people as possible that it was coming out and when to expect it. The easiest way that a I am able to keep up with everyone in my fan base is by using social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and YouTube.
